This deal represents the largest contract awarded by BHGE to a local partner in in the region
Cairo, Egypt; February 14, 2018 – BHGE (NYSE: BHGE) has awarded Petroleum Projects & Technical Consultations Company (Petrojet) a contract worth close to EGP 1 billion, extending an existing, long-term manufacturing partnership between the two companies.
The deal will allow Petrojet to provide manufacturing services for BHGE’s upstream oil and gas operations in Egypt, including the fabrication, construction, and testing of heavy-duty structures and components for BHGE’s subsea production system for Phase two of the Zohr gas field, situated in the Mediterranean Sea, off the Egyptian Coast, which was awarded to BHGE last year by Petrobel.
“We are proud to be expanding our partnership with BHGE, a leading global provider of advanced oil and gas technologies and services, that integrates Petrojet’s extensive knowledge of the local Egyptian, Middle Eastern and African markets with BHGE’s world class technology portfolio” stated Eng. Mr. Waleed Lotfy Mostafa, Chairman and CEO of Petrojet. “By strengthening this partnership, we will continue our focus on co-developing the localized solutions and capabilities required to enable us to respond to local and global market needs, while continuously improving the quality of service we provide to our customers.”
The agreement underlines BHGE’s commitment to driving domestic value creation, developing local skilled jobs and improving manufacturing capabilities in-country, specifically in terms of quality, delivery time and cost. The contract will also support the development of exports, with the potential to serve other markets in the Middle East and Africa.
“Aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Ministry of Petroleum’s Modernization Program, BHGE is supporting the country’s vision of achieving global competitiveness and becoming an important oil and gas hub for the region,” said Ayman Khattab, VP of BHGE for the South Gulf and East Africa Geo-Market. “Egypt has a wealth of human capital with strong technical capabilities and, together with the ongoing development of the Zohr gas field and our partnership with Petrojet, we can build local know-how and create jobs to support industrial and economic growth in-country.”
Graham Gillies, VP, Subsea Production Systems for BHGE said: “In combining BHGE’s expertise in subsea systems and Petrojet’s extensive fabrication and manufacturing experience we are able to instill world-class capability to enable the successful implementation of this landmark project. This partnership model demonstrates how we are able to deliver efficiency gains for the success of the Zohr Phase II project as well as the wider oil and gas supply chain.”
The agreement builds on GE’s long-standing partnership with Petrojet, one that has seen the two companies work together to locally manufacture BHGE’s API-certified sucker rod pumping units. These units have been fabricated and assembled in Petrojet’s workshop in Idku, Alexandria, with more than 1,170 assembled to date in Egypt.
